Propulsion Design Engineer
Location: Kent, Washington
As part of a small team the Propulsion Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for Propulsion hardware that meets the requirements of Blue Origin's launch vehicle programs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation and development of manufacturing processes for rocket engine development, including: welding, brazing, heat treat, plating, casting, forging, coating, machining and forming, and cleaning.
- Review designs with consideration for manufacturing producibility, testability, and recurring cost and provide recommendations for improvement (process approach, materials, etc.)
- Develop tooling concepts and designs and manage the build of tooling
- Create work instructions and other documentation to support manufacturing
- Support/develop cost estimates, assembly labor estimates, and make/buy decisions
- Provide support and troubleshooting during hardware integration
- Parts fabrication, Engine assembly
- Disassembly and Inspection of test hardware
- Parts tracking and process control on critical parts, as needed
- Supplier assessment, process development, trouble shooting, First Article Inspection
- Coordinate with other ME's on vehicle build and flow activities
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated experience in the design, development, and testing of launch vehicle or spacecraft propulsion systems.
- BS degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and at least 7 years of experience in Aerospace or related fields.
- U.S. citizen, U.S. national, permanent resident, refugee or asylee.
Desired
- Working knowledge of a variety of rocket propellants, including Hydrogen Peroxide, kerosene (RP), and cryogenics.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, machining, plating, forming, and cleaning.
- Knowledge in the use of 3-D CAD tools (ProEngineer is preferred). and GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
