Avionics Engineer

Location: Kent, Washington

As part of a small team, you will be responsible for the overall development of the avionics (hardware and software) for various flight vehicles. This position includes both avionics systems tasks and hands-on design, development, and test tasks. The scope of the avionics includes:

  • Flight avionics hardware, including computing, signal conditioning and data acquisition, actuator control, RF communication, electrical and hydraulic power, and wire harness elements
  • Flight software, including hardware I/O interface, vehicle guidance, navigation, and control, fault tolerance, and Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) elements
  • Ground-support electronics hardware and software

Responsibilities:

  • Avionics system engineering tasks, including requirements definition and verification; budget, schedule, and cost management; the development of test plans, procedures, and reports; and design documentation
  • Architectural development of flight and ground support avionics hardware and software systems
  • Avionics hardware procurement, including requirements definition, subcontractor management, and acceptance testing
  • The development of custom avionics hardware components, including design, functional and environmental testing, and flight hardware assembly support
  • The design of wiring harnesses and support for mechanical packaging of avionics hardware components
  • The development of flight and test FPGA code and software
  • The identification of opportunities for safety improvements and system and operational cost savings

Qualifications:

Required

  • Demonstrated experience in the design of avionics hardware and software systems
  • BS degree or higher in electrical or an appropriate engineering field and at least 5 years of relevant experience in the design, development, testing, and operation of launch vehicles and subsystems
  • U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or otherwise able to review all export-controlled technical information

Desired

  • Digital and analog circuit design, simulation, assembly, and test, with knowledge of design principles for non-laboratory environments
  • FPGA code (VHDL or Verilog) design, simulation, and test
  • High-level and low-level software design and test
  • The use of electronics test equipment and data acquisition systems
  • The development of automated test environments
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, integration processes, and quality control
